Read Romance, Support Soldiers, Rescue Pups
I write military romance for many reasons, but mostly to pay homage to our American brothers and sisters who willingly put their lives, hearts, minds, bodies on the line to ensure us a life of abundance and safety. I am in awe of their service, their sacrifice, their families, their reality, and their humanity. It seems commonplace to portray soldiers as hardened, robotic men and women who have superhuman capabilities to endure, or even thrive in, severely intense situations. I often worry we lose sight of their actual plight--their relatable nature--and take for granted their bravery, seeing it as innate rather than an act...a choice.
Our hearts are individually captured by different things for different reasons. Soldiers and dogs capture my heart in unmatched ways. When I began writing my debut novel, ALL MY ROADS, in April, 2019, I knew I wanted to use the story (the entire Caribou Springs Series) to humbly give back to our US Military. After a lot of research, I happened upon K9s For Warriors...an agency that saves K9 and warrior lives by training service dogs (many of whom are rescues or surrenders) and matching them with veterans facing PTSD, TBI, and/or MST.
I stand in awe of this mission and am brought to tears at the way every K9 + Warrior pair results in two lives truly saved by the unconditional, desperately desired love of the other. It is exactly the sort of redemption story I want my own stories to make possible, and that's why I proudly support K9s For Warriors with regular donations.
Join me in an effort to make these K9 + Warrior relationships possible. If you have a dog, you know their healing power AND their need for a loving owner. Together, we can do beautiful things.
