We are looking for volunteers who would like to commit to completing the workout in honor of Lt. Murphy on Memorial Day Weekend. We will seek support from our friends, families, and colleagues in order to raise money for our local service organization: K9s for Warriors.
If you would like to participate or if you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lt. Michael P. Murphy was a US Navy Seal that lost his life while serving his country in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Michael Murphy grew up in Long Island, NY and attended The Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a double major degree in political science and psychology prior to accepting an appointment to the US Navy's Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. He then attended BUD/S (Navy Seal Training) in Coronado, California, eventually graduating in November, 2001.
Lt. Murphy was killed in action in June, 2005. He was posthumously award the Medal of Honor for his bravery in October, 2007. He was the first member of the U.S. Navy to receive the award since the Vietnam War.
300 Air Squats
Each year, CrossFit affiliates across the globe perform this workout on Memorial Day in honor of Lt. Murphy. The CrossFit Community at CrossFit Ferrum (and around the country!) will be there to cheer us on the whole way.
The workout is meant to be long and grueling - a tribute to Murph's sacrifice. (It is meant to be performed with a weight vest to simulate his gear!) However, most people perform a modified version the first time they complete the workout. The coaches at CrossFit Ferrum will assist each participant in modifying the challenge to suit your personal fitness level.
